Do we learn better by writing rather than typing?

I was scanning Lifehacker (one of my favorite sites to visit regularly) and noticed an interesting article titled Why You Learn More Effectively by Writing Than Typing.

The article contends that we might learn better by writing about something, such as when we take notes as we’re learning, than we do if we type the same material on our computers.

What are your thoughts? Do you learn better when you write rather than type?

I think definitely doing handwriting is a stronger way of building memory than typing. And I say this as someone who’s typed almost everything since I was a kid because my handwriting was so fucking abominable. But there is certainly something about forming the words with your hand that makes it stick more. It might be the physical action, and it might be the fact that it takes longer. Sometimes I specifically write early drafts of essays in longhand because it subverts my need to go over the same sentence again and again and again, but that’s another feature.
